Service Description

As we take a closer look at trauma we understand that trauma is a very common human experience and a very common human condition; it is a fact of life. When it comes to working with stress and trauma, we need to take in consideration the huge impact trauma has on our bodies - the Nervous System. Here we all carry our feelings and tensions. In Somatic Therapy, we learn to differentiate the connection between feelings, emotions, thoughts, and body sensations, and learn the role they play in our stress and past traumatic experiences. When we do work on the physiology of the body we can go to the root cause problem and understand the state of the Nervous System in relation to trauma. In somatic work the therapist is present, attuned and empathizes with the client's needs, creates and holds a safe space to keep the client in a state of calmness, to ensure we do not bring the client into a re-traumatised, activated and highly dis-regulated state. As studies around trauma have shown, when addressing trauma, we need to involve the body in our work to enhance the therapeutic process.
